A Typical Day

At Innovative Early Learning, our qualified and experienced Educators understand children need a skilful balance of the new, unexpected and exciting with the familiar, predictable and secure. A typical day at the Centre would be:

7:30am – Centre Opens

Parents and children being to arrive. Parents sign their children into the Centre, help the children store their belongings and then take them to join their friends. Children of all ages play together for a short period until more friends of their own age arrive. This is an enjoyable and special time, particularly for siblings.

8:00am – 8:30am Breakfast

Educators serve breakfast to those children who are at the Centre and whose parents have requested this. Breakfast is supplied by the parents, however, Innovative Early Learning supplies cow’s milk and soy milk.

8:15am (0-2 years) 8:30am (2-5 years) – Toileting and Nappy Change

Educators remind younger children to use the toilet at this time, and also check the younger ones’ nappies. Of course, educators change nappies as required throughout the day.

Older children use the toilet and wash their hands when needed. All play spaces have a bathroom attached and Educators are always nearby to assist.

9:00am – Morning Tea

Morning tea is served. Older children are encouraged to serve themselves. Educators assist where necessary as well as ensure hygiene practices are followed. This is an enjoyable way for them to start their day together.

Morning Group Times

Group Time adds to children’s sense of belonging. It also gives them the opportunity to share their own ideas and listen to those of others. Older children are encouraged to share news, and this develops their confidence to speak in front of a group.

Educators also take the opportunity to intentionally teach children about topics such as SunSmart, nutrition and sustainability. They also read stories and introduce favourite songs.

Learning Through Play

During this time, children learn through indoor and outdoor play. The resources, books and activities have been carefully selected and arranged to support their learning.

Children have opportunities to: run and climb; build and construct; cook; read; engage in creative play and dramatic arts; garden; care for live creatures; complete puzzles; play in the sand-pit; take part in music and movement; explore science; use technology; and, relax.

Educators value child-initiated play and also engage in co-constructed play with the children. Further, they look for opportunities to intentionally teach children as they play. They also plan specific activities for individual children and the group.

11:15am (0-2 years) 12.00 (2-3 years) 12:30pm (3-5 years) – Lunch

A freshly prepared hot lunch is served every day for the children to enjoy together.

Sleep/ Quiet Time – In our 0-2 years room, we continue your baby’s home sleep routine as much as we can as we understand how important it is to maintain continuity between home and the Centre. In our 2-3 years room, rest time commences at 12:30pm. Children are also able to sleep whenever they need it. Group (pre-schoolers) commence their rest time at 1:00pm. Children who do not sleep are provided with quiet activities such as reading and puzzles.

2:30pm – Afternoon Tea

Afternoon tea is served for the children before outside activity time.

3:00pm – Learning Through Play

During this time, children learn through play both indoors and outdoors. The resources, books and activities have been carefully selected and arranged to support their learning.

Children can be seen: running and climbing; building and constructing; cooking; reading; engaging in creative play and dramatic arts; gardening; caring for live creatures; completing puzzles; playing in the sand-pit; taking part in music and movement; exploring science; using technology; and, finally, relaxing.

4:45pm – Late Snack

A late snack is served to the children outdoors – weather permitting.

6:00pm – Centre Closes

Throughout the afternoon, parents arrive to collect their children. At this time, they read and hear about their children’s exciting day playing and learning with their friends and Educators. Parents can also read the specific details about their children’s care routines.

Educators share information about children’s day, especially the highlights) with parents at this time. Parents are also able to view a Daily Journal, together with photographs of their children engaging in activities, through the Family Lounge App.
